This hour-long presentation will allow the attendee to discover the world of serious games and educational gamification. Three major points will be discussed:

Why games offer an excellent educational affordance. We will review the basics of game design.

What different types of serious games are on the market today and how to distinguish between good and bad educational games.

How to integrate learning games into the classroom or into an academic curriculum. We will discuss the barriers and obstacles that make it difficult to use games in education as well as the different strategies teachers use to get games into their classrooms.
